Where we met: The Workman’s Club
Why we like him: he’s just cool!
Behind the scenes: we went to see him play at the Ruby Sessions and fell in love. He had a second gig in Dublin for the day after, so we were lucky enough to have our chance to schedule an interview!

Who: Fiach (Dublin, Ireland)
Latest record: So I (Marcella Records, 2010)
Online: myspace.com/fiachmusic and fiach.net
Our favourite video: dignity, as played at the bamboo sessions in 2009.
Where we met: at the Guinness Storehouse, before one of his gig.
Why we like him: he’s just a lovely guy and spending 45 minutes in the same lift was definitely a bonding experience!
Behind the scenes: We would have liked to film the interview at the 7th floor and capture that amazing view, but there were bands soundchecking so we ended up doing the interview in the panoramic lift. You have no idea how many takes it took us to get this 5 mins video done, with all the people costantly getting in and out our lift. It was great fun though :)

Live within your means..

Who: John Wright, drummer of NoMeansNo (Vancouver, Canada)
Latest record: Tour EP 2 (Wrong Records, 2010)
Online: myspace.com/myspaceiswrong and nomeanswhatever.com
Our favourite video: this live version of Angel Or Devil
Where we met: The Button Factory
Why we like them: We bought Oh Canaduh! 7″ vinyl almost by chance in 1991, we were just intrigued by the band’s name. Since then, we’ve always kept on eye on NoMeansNo as they are kind of part of our teenage years.
Behind the scenes: that week was unbelievable cold for the Irish standards (-10°C that very night), there was ice on the streets and every night concerts would be cancelled. We tried to get in contact with NoMeansNo’s manager to know if we should go or not, but couldn’t reach him on the phone. A few minutes after that, we found a message on our mailbox: it was NoMeansNo telling us to join them! One minute later we were on our way :)
P.S. Many thanks to our friend Michele for his help with the camera.

Where we met: The Burlington Hotel, the morning after their gig in Whelans
Why we like them: For the dreamy, sometimes obscure, atmosphere of their music

Behind the Scenes: Our interview was supposed to take place at Whelans, before their concert. However, when we got there, Alison told us that they needed more time for the soundcheck as a band member couldn’t make it to Ireland and they needed to rearrange part of the setlist. So we agreed on meeting the morning after at their hotel and let them concentrate on the new arrangements.

Being alone for six months in Drogheda in search of inspiration, trying to mic a drum kit with just one microphone, This Old Dark Machine as a representative single, the documentary on the making of Early in the Morning…

[The record] Sounds much bigger than I would thought it would…

Who: James Vincent Mc Morrow (Dublin)
Latest record: Early In The Morning (Burning ropes / EMI)
Online: myspace.com/jamesvmcmorrow and jamesvmcmorrow.com
Our favourite video: Follow You Down To The Read Oak Tree (as plaid on The View)
Where we met: Doyles Pub, at the Ruby Sessions
Why we like him: we were captivated by his voice and melodies since we first witnessed one of his gigs.
Behind the Scenes: we were introduced to James after one of his very first gigs, in Whelans back in 2007. He had opened for Jack Savoretti that night, and, even though at the time he had yet to sharpen his talent, his performance was way more intense than Savoretti’s! We’ve been waiting for his debut album to be released for so long, and now we’re so excited to finally have it!
